What to Bring

  • All fishing gear.  Waders (preferably neoprene for Spring and breathable for Summer and Autumn).

  • Clothing for all seasons. This includes rain jacket, spray jackets are not adequate. Often very good fishing is to be had during rain (or snow). Only a jacket of the highest quality will allow you to be comfortable.

  • If walking is contemplated you must be able to survive on your own. Your tent, sleeping bag, clothing and knowledge can be severely tested. Stout walking boots that fit you and are comfortable are another essential if bush walking is to be part of your trip.

  • Torch (with battery supply). This will allow you to observe Tasmanian wildlife eg. wombats, possums, wallabies, Tasmanian Devils etc.

  • Slippers or light footwear for indoors.

  • Phone card with 1800 number access.

Hints to Improve your Tassie Holiday

  • If hiring a vehicle consider a 4WD. Even though a standard 2WD will travel on all roads in the Highlands most are gravel and are safer to negotiate with a 4WD.

  • Dont fish remote water by yourself. Inform someone of your intention and expected time of arrival.

  • Be courteous on the water and dont crowd fellow anglers. Looking for undisturbed water is invariably more productive. Most anglers if approached will gladly share information.
